I got an unsolicited offer to buy my business. What should I do first?First, pause and take a breath.  That’s exciting.  But don't respond until you can answer three questions. 1. Do you actually want to sell? An unsolicited offer creates urgency that's almost never real. Get clear on your own answer before the buyer's timeline starts driving the decision.2. Do you know what the business is actually worth? A $5 million offer sounds strong until you learn it could be worth $7 million. Without a current valuation, you have no way to judge the number.3. If you're actually open to selling, are you doing it on your terms? Get multiple offers. Having one buyer tells you there's demand. But multiple buyers tell you what the market will actually pay, and gives you leverage on price, deal structure, earnouts, and other terms.❗Remember, one offer is not a process. And being emotionally ready to sell is just as important as being financially ready.  If this is coming out of the blue, take your time.  And work through the process.Need help evaluating an offer?
