Medicare Open Enrollment is coming Oct 15.  And so are the scammers.Rule #1: If someone calls out of the blue claiming to be from Medicare and asks for your Medicare number, Social Security number, or banking info? Hang up.Medicare will NOT randomly call, email, or text you to:• Issue a “new” Medicare card• Fix a “problem” with your benefits• Ask you to click a link or verify info to keep coverageWhat to do instead:1. Phone call? Hang up. Don’t call that number back.2. Email? Don’t click, reply or call the number provided in the email.3. Go direct: TYPE Medicare.gov into your browser to reach the website or call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) directly.Same for web searches.  Scam sites and ads can look official. Don’t click the first Medicare-looking result.  Go direct to Medicare’s site by TYPING Medicare.gov.   Open Enrollment is confusing enough. Don’t let a scammer make it worse.
