For many retirees, Social Security is one of their largest financial assets, often rivaling their investment accounts. It’s also one of the most important decisions you’ll make heading into retirement (along with Medicare). And the timing of your decision really matters too. Depending on when you start benefits, and assuming you’ve maxed out your lifetime earnings, your 2025 monthly social security benefit could look like this: • Age 62: ~$2,800/month ($33,600/year) • Age 67: ~$4,000/month ($48,000/year) • Age 70: ~$5,100/month ($61,200/year) That’s a difference of more than $30,000 per year…and potentially hundreds of thousands over your lifetime. But waiting until 67 or 70 might not be the right choice. The right timing depends on your health, income needs, work status, spousal benefits, and other considerations. Like any other major asset, Social Security (along with Medicare) deserves careful coordination with your overall financial plan. So be sure you are working with your financial planner and CPA to understand the different scenarios and choose the path that makes most sense for you. And for a deeper dive into what you need to know about Medicare options, check out our next webinar on October 28 at 12:00 Noon ET.
